A8N SLI Failure?

Got my computer running perfect.. fresh copy of Windows installed (had been working for a few days).. take my computer home from my friends house, hook everything up.. nothing. Just my LEDs and all fans (including CPU, chipset, and graphics card fan) start up. Tried taking the mobo out of box in case of grounding issues, using nothing but graphics card (in case the issue was bad psu). Same deal. No post or anything, just fans and LEDs light up.... Sound like my board has gone bad?

I just went thru something similar. PSU was ok. 24 pin and 4 pin power connectors were connected ok. Chipset fan was ok. Have a xp90 cpu cooler with a thermaltake fan on it. would only start at low rpm, Not increase when the hard drive signal come on. What it turned out to be was my sata cable. I ordered the Thermaltake sata UV blue cable. Their cables are shit. Put one of the red asus ones that came with the board on and worked perfect. Not sure if this is the same as what you are going through. But in my case i thought the mobo was bad. Would not even see the drive after already having Windows XP on it.

It would be too coincidental that the board just happend to fail while turned off while you were transporting your system. It's more likely something got jarred loose or even damaged. Double check all your connections and reseat all of the components and RAM.

Double checked all the components and reset the RAM. Tried using each stick separately. Still the same problem (on board LED turns on, all fans turn on). When I start my computer up the "Power" light on my case doesnt light up anymore, where as it used to when everything worked, so I know the connection for that little pwr led cord is connected right. When I plug my monitor into the graphics card, the monitor sort of flickers and makes a noise of turning on after connecting. I have nothing connected now but GPU and the pwr switch and pwr led and stuff.. Any ideas?

Try reseating the CPU too...
Sometimes happens to me when I clean the HSF in my comptuer. :S

Reset CPU.. same problem persists. All fans turn on, LEDs (except for "Power" light on case... HDD Light works when HDD is pluged in). IF both sticks of RAM are bad, the computer would not turn on would it? But the chances of both sticks going bad just from transfering my computer to my house is unlikely right?

Edit: RAM is Kingston HyperX PC3200 1 gig (2x512) dual channel kit

Check the recessed slide switch on the rear of your power supply, the one that toggles it between 115-volt and 230-volt input. You might've nudged it with your fingertips when you were carrying the computer. Seen it happen... The computer should be just fine if that's the problem.

Otherwise, reset the CMOS after unplugging the computer and removing the CMOS battery. If that doesn't help, then a full spec list (including power supply brand/model) would be a good idea here.

Tried that.. didn't work. Full spec of computer (well, that is connected right now, and should enable the computer to post):

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1 gig Kingston HyperX PC3200
Gigabyte nVidia 6600GT
Rosewill 400w PSU Model: LC-A400ATX

Now, I know Rosewill makes cheap cases, and even crappier PSUs, however it worked before powering everything up just fine, and it still is powering everything, and I don't have much installed (mobo, GPU, ram, fans). When I still had my HDD and CD Roms/Floppy/Case lights installed, it was powering all of them as well.

What gets me though, is the "Power" LED on the front of the case does not light up even though the cable is positioned properly. When the computer was working correctly, it would light up. That makes me wonder if that prong on the motherboard is bad, which could mean other things are bad as well. It also could mean nothing so.. Any suggestions?

Edit: I DO plan on getting a new PSU with my upcoming paycheck, however I do not think that is currently the problem.

Had a pretty similar problem happen to me last week. I booted down to rearrange my cables, changed molex over for my cold cathode, and when attempting to boot back up would not post. I hit the reset button, it booted fine but then had stability problems.

AFter that it failed to post 9/10 times. Most of the time monitor would have no signal, but often it would freeze at entering BIOS and when detecting devices. I was like you got to be shitting me.

I seemed to work fine after resetting the cmos, but once I hooked a component up (HD, etc) it would fail to post. Another thing that was strange was that my power button would take 3 seconds, held down, to turn off when usually when working properly would turn off with just a click.

I ended up getting it working after a couple cmos resets, and noticed on these boards that people were having similar problems with the beta BIOS 1003 that I have. I would flash back, but this is the only revision where I don't get errors while booting overclocked....

I want to make sure I'm resetting the CMOS correctly.. I read the manual and did it that way, but to reassure myself, could you tell me step by step what I need to do. Thanks.

Edit: My power button obviously is working correctly, but my reset switch does not seem to be working (however I'm not sure how I'd really be able to notice with no monitor signal and just a few fans running).

Rosewill PSU. ding ding ding!! Get a high-quality PSU into that thing. Enermax has some 24-pin-equipped jobbies that would do the job.

Yea, try that. It might be a conicidence that it gave out after you shut it down before taking the computer home.

To reset the CMOS, turn the computer off and unplug it from the wall. To be sure it's completely drained of power, press the power button on the case (I skip this step myself). Some people say to remove the battery, but I never do that either. All you have to do at this point is move the CMOS jumper to the other side (from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3, or vice versa). Let it sit there for several seconds, then move it back to its previous position.

I have the EXACT problem that you do.
I have a rosewill 400W case
1 stick 512 mb 3200 ddr kingston ram
maxtor sata hd
A64 3200


Was working fine. Went to upgrade to windows xp pro. Near the end of the install it did a reboot.
Then it just stopped working. The green led inside the case on the mobo lights up. All the fans spin (cpu mobo and case fans) but the bios doesnt post AND the leds on my case no longer work.

I am waiting on Asus to call me back. What ticks me off is that Im going to have to pay shipping for this to RMA it.

My last hope is that its a PSU problem. But i highly doubt that it is.
