My chipset fan is slowly dying I can hear tones of bad sounds when it starts up but returns to normal after a while. Any 1 know what I can do to stop it?.. Any help would be greatly appreciated thx

Asus should send you a new one under warranty. You have to request an rma. You might also request just the fan be sent, but you may have to return the whole board. Some will recommend you just replace the asus fan with a fanless heatsink, but I don't recommend it. It could void your warranty, usually 3 years.

When I remember correctly, we had another post here, where someone got a mail from Asus support to use the passive Zalman cooler (ZM-NB47J) to replace his noisyness. 😉
I myself would not want to change it back anymore... 😀

Same here, use the heatsink, and make sure there's enough airflow over the heatsink, or you could use the heatsink and stick a small silent fan on top. The latter is what i got

Here's a picture of the setup

ASUS sent me two fans to replace my broken chipset fan (the first replacement fan didn't work either). I'm using the Zalman ZM-NB47J because I got tired of waiting for the replacement. Now I wouldn't think of using a fan to cool my chipset. Just make sure that your case hase plenty of airflow and that you are not using a non-stock heatsink on your video card(s).

I have used the Zalman NB47J since the board was brand new and I have a replacement fan and the original, I will keep my Zalman.

I'm telling you, you can't go wrong with the NB47J. Either that sell the board and pick up the Premium version or the A8N32 version.

I say you can't go wrong with the Swiftech MCX159-CU Universal Chipset Cooler. Because copper is better. Plus, you still have active cooling with a quality fan. I think the fan will last, but if it did go out you don't have to remove the heatsink... you can just replace the fan. Then one I got from crazypc came with a quiet fan with good airflow. Then replace your factory videocard heatsink/fans with ZALMAN VF700-CU. The Zalman will blow cool air onto the Swiftech and get it even cooler. They work together. My whole system is cooler. Everything idles around 32-35C even my CPU! My chipset temp is 32C at idle... never over 34-35 under heavy load now that Arctic Silver 5 has kicked in. It is now the coolest component in my system. Not to mention I keep my Athlon 4800+ overclocked to 2.6. I know that's not much of an overclock but I keep it that way 24/7 and my system is rock stable and nice and cool!

The only problem with the NB47J heatsink on the A8N-SLI Deluxe is that it can interfere with 3rd-party videocard coolers. I got so tired of the whine of my BFG 6800GT fan, that I replaced it with the NVSilencer. But the NVSilencer is so bulky, it completely interferes with the NB47J. So I put the stock A8N-SLI fan back on the board.

Well, recently the whine of the A8N-SLI Deluxe fan got so annoying that I bought a Zalman VF700Cu for my 6800 GT. But even this cooler interferes with the NB47J, although much less so than the NVSilencer. I ended up cutting off a little bit of about 6 copper fins on the VF700Cu to get everything to fit without interference. I was very close to buying the A8N-SLI Premium to get around these problems altogether.
