A8N-SLI Deluxe Boot Issues

For about a year, I've battled with my A8N-SLI Deluxe boards. I've won mini-battles here and there, but I still feel that I'm losing the war.

Originally, I had bad floppies, and thus couldn't install windows; this took me 8 months to figure out. After about a month of working well, my computer began to bluescreen like crazy. After about a 3 weeks, I realized the motherboard's default setting was undervolting the RAM.

So, now I come to this issue. I've been searching Google and forums like this, but either I don't know how to search or nobody else has been having my problem.

My problem now is that my computer can rarely make it to the "Detecting IDE Drives..." portion of the boot sequence. I figured it was just my motherboard's problem, so I bought another A8N-SLI Deluxe to use in the interim while I RMAed my original board. But this new board does just the same thing my other board does.

These boards do not handle restarts at all (won't POST after restart), so to reboot, I have to turn the power off and back on. And I have to wait a bit before starting back up, or else the computer won't even POST.

And, while the board was consistently moving past the "Detecting IDE Drives..." phase, I tried to attach a floppy to it and now, no matter what I try (floppy attached or not), the computer freezes after displaying "Chipset Model: nForce4".

I assume if I wait a couple hours, the motherboard may allow me to boot up successfully again, but I have no idea why it won't let me boot up every time.

I can't imagine I'm the only one to ever have this problem (since I've had it with two boards), so I hope someone's found a solution.

My system is as follows:
Processor: 3500+ Athlon 64 Socket 939
Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (nForce4)
Video Card: BFG GeForce 6600 GT-OC PCIe
Memory: 1 GB (2x512 MB) Crucial Ballistix PC3200 Dual-Channel DDR
Hard Drive: Hitachi Deskstar 250GB SATA
Power Supply: Antec TPII-480 (480W)
Case: Antec SLK1650B (Mid Tower)

Edit: After writing this message I tried to boot my computer (about 1/2 hour after I had last tried) and it booted fine - no stalls or anything. So, something's really screwy. It sounds like an overheating issue, but there's not much on my system that should be overheating - I've overclocked nothing.
