a8n-sli / athlon 3000+ temp issue

I think it's time that I had a problem... why not, I thought to myself.

Anyways, I have a thermaltake xaser V aluminum wingo case with 5 fans.

My asus probe temps are 35c cpu/ 35c mobo and that is with all case fans at about full blast (there are 2 knobs on this case connecting to two of the fans to control htem manually). I decided to turn down those 2 fans to their non control speed... and the cpu and board went up to 37c... and this is at idle.

Let me list some possible problems, and see if anyone can elaborate.

1. my cpu is athlon 3000+. I am using the stock cooler but no thermalpaste, having heard that the square of material on the athlon heatsink was enough. I have to believe that 35c idle is too high for the 3000+. Would thermal paste be the answer here, and has anyone used it in addition to that square of material on the stock cooler?

2. I have a neopower 480 and it seems to run hot. Is this thing blowing heat down onto my cpu and mobo? It seems to be radiating heat. If anyone else has the neopower and can share their thoughts, or anyone else. It isn't a bad psu and powers my setup fine. And I like the modular cables. However, I am quite shaky on it.

3. The msi 6600gt that I am using could potentially be running so hot that it is effecting the mobo and cpu. Since it doesn't have a built in sensor, and I don't have any thermometers for this, I can't tell. I am concerned about it, Even though it appears to work fine and run well. I got it from mwave. I've never rma'd anything before, and I have to wonder how easy it actually is. Is it easy to send something back for a different product or not? I remain leery.

4. Nightmare scenario. I recieved a boxed amd processor. Maybe I got one of these falsies that I hear about where someone has messed with the chip. Has anyone else heard of this? On the otherhand, maybe amd packaged a 3500 locked to 3000 settings.

Apparently cool and quiet is on in the bios. Bios I'm using is 1003. Usually at boot I'm at 34/34 or 33/34.

My setup
a8n-sli
athlon 3000
msi 6600gt
kingston 512 mb
seagate 120gb 700.7
benq 1620
thermaltake xaser wingo 8000a
neopower 480

The system seems to be working great, but the temps are unnerving me.

0. Don't trust motherboard readings.
1. Good temps.
2. Did you actually install the C'n'Q-drivers? Do it. :p
3. Great sys, but I would cut down on the fans, silence iz priority, aaight? (wicked)
