I switched from forceware 66.93 to 71.24 and I have to say the difference is like night and day. I got 2000 more 3dmarks in 3dmark01 for a total of 27,731 with NO OVERCLOCKING AT ALL!!!

I also noticed an extrordinary difference in the colors in Half Life 2. Unbelievable!! Give it a try! I downloaded it from guru3d dot com.

I tried them tonight, but I get the floating, shimmering line in the middle of my screen while playing Tribes: Vengeance. It is not load balancing, either, I have that disabled. I have to use the 67.03's, they work a little better than the 66.93's for me. The 71.24's do work great in every other game, though. I wish I could figure out why it is doing that in that one certain game!

shawn,

i sent you a private message some time back. I wanted to know how to remove the nf chipset heatsink. How did you remove the pins? What did you replace the chipset fan with?

Wow, sorry I never looked to see if I had any pm's! I really wasn't blowing you off!
Anyway, I removed it by using a pair of plastic (nothing metal!) type needle nose tweezers and smushed the pins together on the backside of the board. Then, gently pushed them through the board with my fingers. Do not, ever, use anything metal like a screwdriver. One slip and the board is toast. I simply took the hsf off, inspected the chipset for revision (A03), cleaned it off with alcohol, reapplied AS Ceramique and put the chipset cooler back on. I think I posted about the rubber chipset shim not being on right, so it was a good thing I did what I did.
If you need anything else, let me know (I'll even check my pm's!).

Shawn

Hey, you don't have Tribes: Vengeance, do you? I want to see if someone who was using the 71.24's would have the same issue as I do with that game with those drivers. Maybe I'll make a seperate post.

thanks shawn, I'm assuming you used the same pins? How did they stay if you crushed them when you took them out?

Nice, I saw these up for download and was curious as to if they worked properly.

I'm getting the shimmering line in the middle of my screen in counterstrike:source. Was wanting to know if these drivers will fix it.

Also, while playing Doom 3. I've noticed that while out on the Mars surface, the 'dust' effect is not rendered correctly. Instead of a blowing dust storm, all I see is a huge black texture that you canno see through.

Will try this new driver out tomorrow.

bap4201,

Do you think you can fit 2 - NV5 Silencers in your system ? is there enough room available w/ 2 pci cards installed ? I have a scsi & audigy2 that would have to fit ?

Also do you think this board is competely stable ? I've been reading post about problems w/ Audigy2's & the nics not working..

I plan on ordering in about 2 weeks from now, my choice is the A8N-SLI/A3200+ or a DFI LanParty/3400+ and getting either a pci-e or agp 6800GT.
Would you say that running stock would yeild no problems ? How about oc'ding w/ the A8N ?? I will get a Antec 550EPS regardless , so power won't be a problem.

I really want to get pci-e , not only for the option of SLI, but that future mobo's will more than likely be pci-e based. I'd like to make the $500 video card last a couple of upgrades.

I sort of think that many of the problems reported by users of this mobo are created by the user's inexperience.

What's your take on this mobo ? Any info on which bios to use or when a official ver will be released ?

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Jose

1) Don't know anything about the N5V Silencer, sorry.

2) I think board is completely stable at stock and I have NEVER had a problem w/ audity 2 zs NOR the nic and I am networked to a home server and another client.

3) My take on the Asus A8N-SLI is that it is the fastest mobo available today and I find it to be completely rock solid stable.
