I have an A8N-e motherboard + a 250gb SATA drive (and I see the size in the BIOS) that when I load Windows XP it format the drive to only 137gb. Does anyone have any ideas?
You could simple use WIndow's Update. This will install all of the necessary updates as well as the service packs. Make sure SP2 installs and see if you're drive is now correctly recognized.
If you have already formated the drive as 137GB during the Windows XP install you will need to format it again. Failing to do this will result in data corruption. I have seen this happen to a friend.
You could simply install the SATA drivers during Windows XP setup so that the full HD capacity will be recognized. Sometimes there is a SATA (RAID) utility in your MB CD that creates the floppy for you or you can download the SATA driver and save it to a floppy drive your self. Once you have the floppy ready press F6 when Windows setup program ask for any additional drivers.
...or do what I did. I cloned my previous drive 200GB PATA to my 300GB SATA drive. No need to do anything else. The partion size is automatically adjusted for the larger size drive. I used True Image 8 software.
