Hello,
Does anyone know the best way to reduce the noise for the chipset fan? I purchased the board because of ?AMD cool-n-quiet & ASUS?s Q-fan? but after spending hours trying to slow the chipset fan down with settings in the BIOS and software, nothing has helped?

Look for the massive thread on A8N SLi chipset fan replacement. The A8N-E has the same layout as the SLi (minus a few components missing) and the same noise issue.

Pick:

1) 5v diet
2) replace with silent chipset cooler
3) replace with passive cooler (my favourite, being silence addicted myself ;))

EDIT: Oh, welcome to the forums

Excellent!
Thanks for the advice. I wanted to go with the passive way of cooling the chipset but wasn?t sure that would be sufficient.

I use the Zalman passive cooler, which is big enough (but take care of the space it consumes depending on your VGA setup => if SLI...any how it should work).

My intake fan blows over it after the harddisks, also the VGA cooler a bit...the default cooler can't be efficient IMHO, as there are barely fins on it, especially in the middle, where the chipset die is (there the fan is placed)...no wonder they need 9000rpm.
I can sleep better with the passive one... :)

I think I may go with a fan control unit from VANTEC ?NXP-201-BK?. To use with the chipset fan. I doubt I will be able to turn down the RPMs too low in order to maintain proper cooling but its worth a shot.

but imho more dangerous than picking a passive cooler for $5...i mentioned the crappy stock cooler regarding his nonexistent fins in the middle where the core sits...I just hold it in my hand...it also got a thick layer of crappy thermal grease under it *shudder*

I found some really cheap Zalman chipset coolers here

There was also some review about replacing some board (forgot which model) from the normal northbridge fan to this Zalman passive heatsink, and oddly the passive heatsink dropped degrees from something.. you can chek outu that review here: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/zm-nb32jnorthbridgechipsetcooler.php

I'm thinking about getting one for my A7N8X, which the previous owner sold me it without a northbridge heatsink.
