Hi guys,

I'm feeling stupid again and need your help on an issue I have:

I have the mentioned board with integrated Realtek soundchip. I have connected my digital Z-5500 speakers through optical SPDIF.

Now, when I play movies with WinDVD 6.x, the stupid SW will decode the DTS instead of sending it to the speakers no matter what I set in Sound settings for WinDVD. As a result, only stereo signal is sent which kinda kills my listening experience :(
I tried ALL combinations of whatever is available in those settings to no avail. Of course, the DVDs tested all have 5.1 sound so the problem is entirely with the SW. Note that AC3Filter will play my .avis correctly and will output 5.1 sound through the SPDIF.

Can you recommend me what to do to get 5.1 sound? I'm not particulary attached to WinDVD. Will take any decent DVD player as long as it doesn't cost gazillions to license. Of course, a solution for WinDVD would still be appreciated to save me from wasting ~ $70 spent for it.

Thanks,
Jure

Are you sure that its decoding DTS? Have you verified this by plugging in all the analog inputs? If so, make sure its sound settings are set to "SPDIF passthrough."

Well, I'm pretty sure since my Zalman surround headset yields a pretty good surrond sound WHILE the Z-5500 says the signal received is stereo. Realtek sound manager is set to output "Digital only" whatever that may mean. It's obviously outputting both analog and SPDIF since both the headset and SPDIF are working but the SPDIF is incorrect. What's even funnier, the WinDVD is also set to output only SPDIF, but still I get sound on analog :(

Bump. I'd really like this resolved.

I don't believe that with all the numbers of this MB deployed, no one would be watching DVDs with 5.1 sound over SPDIF?!?
