What is this cpu? I think it is a cat core but online retailers and reviewers are neglecting to mention this. Worse yet, some are mistaking it for Kaveri:

Beware. It is a real shame AMD would release a cpu with "6410" in its model code when that is already a model code for a gpu. I have to question whether any of this is intentional on their part...

I was trying to look for information on this chip also. Maybe it's just a re-branded A6-6310, or one with higher GPU clocks?

It is possible it's simply a brand new chip possibly OEM only. I think we all know AMD's site for checking for detailed part information leaves quite a bit to be desired, but they simply don't have the money to polish things that won't help their bottom line. Give it a month and I'm sure more details will be available from people who may pick up computers with them and post to the web about them.

Wait, I didn't even look at the link lol. It's not a cat core; it really is Kaveri. The clocks are low because it's a laptop chip. The actual name is 6410M.

We got people rushing out to bestbuy to buy this thing thinkign it is a kaveri, and yet we have other saying "who lies"? Well, obviously someone is misleading, because $400 for a cat core notebook is a ripoff.

Kaveri is 7000 series, i could see someone may believe that this A8-6410 is Richland but not Kaveri.

Also, there are Intel Mobile Core i5 and i7 Dual cores. If you dont know then you better ask or read and learn what each SKU really is. Unless you only care how the laptop looks :whiste:

I tried to look it up, and could find no clear answer. Do cat cores clock to 2.0/2.4turbo? Didnt think so. Seems like it could be richland to me.

Edit: dont think anybody is "lying". However, both intel and AMD have extremely confusing nomenclature, especially for laptop chips. Dont know if this is by design or not to make you think you are getting more for your money, but it sure could make one think so.

yes puma cores can hit 2.4Ghz...even kabini can hit 2.4+Ghz[athlon 5350]

Yes Cat cores can Turbo to ~2.4Ghz. And Kaveri is 7xxx series so no lies here.

I'm really interested in this Cat core vs Steamroller core same clock comparison. People say that Cat is almost the same as Kaveri at same clocks.

What I'm interested in is though, do 4 cat cores scale well with the single channel DDR3 memory controller? Shouldn't the kaveri chip be better than a similar cat chip when there are many cat cores?

What makes you sure it's a cat core? Those aren't branded with "A8" in my experience, and it being in a notebook is the reason for the low clock. Richland had low-clock APUs like that in notebooks as well.

When the FX 670 popped up, I was unable to find any information on it either. It's likely an OEM thing, like Nvidia's GTX760Ti.

thread is serious, choice of words is bad. "Lying" seems a bit on the "AMD suxx" line of thought.

i do however subscribe to "why on earth are they reusing the same product name" thing.

wasn't the 6800 a nvidia part before it was a amd part?

just look at the naming scheme...

e1-6010, e2-6110, a4-6210, a6-6310, a8-6410...can you see the pattern?

There is some research to suggest that consumer confusion results in them spending more, if you ever wondered why there aren't many brands that are simple and direct. Example: overly expensive digital cables.
