These two mobos seem pretty comparable in their features - SATA, spdif, gigabit lan.. I'm basically just looking for a solid personal use box, and am pretty sure I wanna go with the a7v880..
I'm just wondering, is there any reason I should not do so?

edit: btw, yes, I know.. wrong section. I'd delete it if I could.

Don't worry too much about the section you posted this in. It is General Hardware. Some very picky ATers will get mad but the majority won't care. Just don't cross-post in Motherboards then ATers will care :)

I like your selection of the A7V880. It's cheaper, faster and has more integrated features. I wouldn't care too much about losing SoundStorm from the A7N8X-E Deluxe because you'd most likely be using analog outs. The SoundMax outputs better sound than the Realtek that A7N8X-E uses.

My personal opinions on Via aren't that great with the Socket A boards, but they no longer use the 686B southbridge which was problematic.

Go for the A7V880 and let us know about your experiences as it's not a commonly talked about chipset around here :)

The nForce 2 is basically the de-facto chipset for the Athlon XP these days, it might be wise to go with the A7N8X just because everyone else is.
