According to the ASUS manual for the A7V333, 1 short beep indicated that the system has passed the POST and that all components are working properly, however, the system shuts itself right off after the 1 short beep. Why!?!

Initially, the system wouldn't even generate any errors but that was corrected after reading up on Asus's undocumented jumper settings and the "over-voltage"

System Setup:
ASUS A7V
Athlon XP 1800+
512 MB PC2100 Mushkin
Gainward Geforce4 Ti4200
430 watt Antec PSU (+5VSB rated at 2A)

HELP!

Any possibility that your power switch is internally stuck? This would have the same effect as holding the power button down until the system shuts off. If you can restart the system with the power switch, that's not it.

The other possibility coming to mind is that your CPU might be overheating very fast due to the heatsink not making proper contact. Is the heatsink on the right direction and fully clipped down?

Check and make sure the Power switch is wired correctly to the MB. That would cause the exact symptoms if it were connected to a different lead on the MB.

Another thought:

Have you got the CPU heat sink fan plugged into the right fan header? Many motherboards (I'm not sure about yours) will shut down if they don't detect a fan, rotating at an adequate speed, plugged into the CPU fan header. Also possible, I suppose, to have the appropriate connection, a working fan, and a malfunctioning sensor on said fan.
