A7V266-E thermal shutdown

In order for the thermal shutdown to work in the case where the fan on the cpu fails, how does it work? Is it all hardware based, or does it need to be software and hardware? If it is software and hardware, which program? ASUSProbe?

It's setup in the BIOS. Hit delete when you computer first boots up... I think it's in the power menu. It's driven by temperature... if the CPU temp exceeds a certain threshold... think it's 70C... it will either throttle the CPU down or shutdown the computer. I set it to shut down.

If you want to do it based on a the CPU fan stopping... you need to download and install Motherboard Monitor. From there you can configure the program to shutdown if the CPU fan dies.

To be honest though... the chances of that happening are pretty slim if you buy a decent fan for your heatsink.

AsusProbe won't do anything. It just monitors.
