A7V266-E RAID 0 SETUP??????

I've tried to set-up a RAID 0 array on my A7V266-E, but I have the following problem(s):

Set-up cables exactly like the manual says - (1) on the Primary IDE, (1) on the Secondary IDE, using ATA100 cables that came w/Motherboard. RAID controller will not recognize drives when set-up this way.

Set-up cables on the Promise IDE 1 & Promise IDE2. RAID controller recognizes both drives, configures array for Striping/RAID 0. When PC is re-booted, boots from CD & I enter WIN 2000 PRO setup, WIN 2K PRO doesn't see the drives at all.

I'm using (2) identical WD 40GB drives, and I changed the jumper from ATA100 to RAID.

Anyone have any ideas?????

The motherboards IDE 1 and 2 are connect to the motherboard's chipset and are seperate from the RAID ports so won't see them in the RAID setup. You should see the drives/stripe type listed during boot before Windows loads. You did install the latest Windows RAID drivers?? They should put a listing in the SCSI/RAID setion in the device manager for the paticular Promise controller your RAID chip uses. No drivers = no controller = no drives.

Both drives are clean - there's nothing on them. The Asus manual says that after the RAID array is correctly configured, it will show-up during boot (which it does), then Windows should be able to format both drives as one big one & install the operating system. Windows set-up isn't seeing either of the drives though.

Well I figured-out PART of the problem - my monitor is going black just when Win 2K is asking for the RAID drivers!
The monitor goes dark for ~ 30-45 secs while setup loads the files it needs. This is also the time when Win 2k asks for any RAID or scsi drivers.... :(

Anyone else experience this or have a solution??????

I can't believe that I'm the only person who's had this issue with the A7V266-E.......
Anyone have a solution??????

I don't have that option as my monitor remains blacked-out during the time when I should load the Promise drivers..... I don't know why it blacks-out, but it does. :(

As for your video problem, try another video card, you can turn off the system and replace it with your main card after you get the drivers loaded.
Are you trying to set up this RAID array on a system with no OS??
If you are then you do need to load the low level drivers but the setup utility will only see one drive which should be the sum of the two RAID drive MB amounts.

Yes, I was trying to setup the array on 2 "clean" disks w/nothing on them. The Asus manual states that you can install your OS on the RAID 0 array, but with that black screen, I can't do so.... I'll try another video card, but this one is a brand-new geForce3 TI 500 which worked great before I tried the RAID array.

the Ti 500 is known to have problems in 2K/XP when loading OS..I have seen this in the "motherboards" and "video" sections of AT. do your install with another video card and then swap in your Ti 500 (drool:p) when OS install is done. Let us know how it goes.

You might try tapping on F6 when your screen goes blank, it will ask a couple of questions and hitting F6 is the signal you want to load the promise driver's. It goes thru a sequence and then asks for the drivers at the end of sequence, at which time you may have your video signal back. It will wait for an action from you. IE either loading driver's or cancelling. You should have transfered those drivers to a floppy earlier. Give it a try.
