Hey all A7V133A users,

I was wondering if I can upgrade my aging TBird 900 to an XP CPU. I have a REV 1.04 PCB and BIOS 1005. I've read on the ASUS web site that you can only use XP processors with PCB 1.05., but I've also read with PCB 1.0 to 1.05 (no dot) you can set the DIP switches to the correct multipliers/FSB to make it work with the XP CPU.

I figure that I'll have to upgrade to BIOS 1009.

What's the final answer?

Thanks.

looking into this one myself. my poor t-bird 1.333 can't push my TI4400 gf4 card to get a good fps in Unreal 2003. ;)

1024x766

32 fps ... tweaked !!!!

I've read on www.a7vtroubleshooting.com that PCB versions 1.0-1.05 (no dot) can use XP CPU's but need to use the jumpers to force the system to post. It won't work with jumperless settings. I was wondering what everyone else's experiences were.

That's strange man... a 1.33 Athlon and a Ti4400 even on SDR should be able to kick out some pretty decent FPS.

my Athlon 1.33 rig on an SDR board with a GF3 Ti200 plays UT better than that even. hmmm.. strange.

also, I tried an XP1700+ in an A7V133 with the latest BIOS at the time (few months ago) to no avail.

I just order an A7v133 and am planning on putting an xp 1600 in it. The bios update on the Asus website says that with the latest revision it will be able to support xp processors. I didn't know anything else about dip switches. Anyone have an xp in there board? If so post how you gots it going. I hope I can get mine up and screamn'.

THis is the board I have (A7V133)

I've not checked the PCB ver (hoping its 1.05.)

From what i understand you need (1.05.) (.)& all.

the normal 1.05 wont work (from what i've heard)

I will be checking my board today and see. I really want to get a 1900+ and overclock the S$#% out of it :)

All,

I've A7V133 Rev. 1.04 and recently upgraded from Duron 850 to Athlon T-bird 1.4G.

Save your money and buy a new DDR400 Motherboard + AthlonXP instead...

The CPU speed alone will not help UT2003 framerate... I use GeForce4 TI4200 (clocked at 300/600) and it's not fast enough because the RAMs are still PC-133 !!!

Eventhough currently it's running 1.5G (@143MHz FSB), with GF4 TI4200... it's not good enough.

I wish I had opted to buy an AthlonXP + DDR mobo instead.

I wish I got a DDR board as well since I've learned my PCB is 1.04 :(

oh well, atleast I fixed my frame rate issue for Ut2003. Now i get 43 fps in 1024x768 high detail all around :)

fine with me, now I don't have to upgrade till Doom3 comes out and by then the new core will be popping up.
