Check this out...

Multiples 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 etc, work fine (some minor ~1% difference in actual speed - i.e. 7.0x100 shows around 707).
BUT
When it's 6.5x100 shows 606 (a 6.0x100 setting)
When it's 7.5x100 shows 707 (a 7.0x100 setting)
When it's 8.5x100 shows 808 (a 8.0x100 setting)

Same applies with FSB settings up to 133.
Did I loose all my "half" multiples?
Anyone else had the same problem?
Something cooked? ;)

Also advice on which BIOS is best (stability & performance)
1003 or 1004?

D700, 256 generic PC133, ATI rage, modem in slot5, hdd, cdrw.
Win98 clean install.

seind,
The leftmost L1 bridge, which is in the .5X circuit, is probably still open. So the mobo is unable to reset the default LO signal to a HI and so reset/add the .5X to the "total" FSB Multiplier.

We know your .5X circuit was set LO, disabled, because you posted a Duron 700, and also because if it were set HI you would be able to get a default n.5X setting.

http://members.nbci.com/candjac/index.htm Duron/Tbird OC article explains all with detailed pics, circuit diagrams, setting algorithms.
You'll come away with an "understanding" of what's going on.

Also page 2 has section on how to "test" for closed bridges without damaging the shorting material. Suggest the defogger repair kit material...more permanent than pencil.

johncar,

Thanks many.
Even though I didn't mention, it was an unlocked cpu that was treated with a 5H pencil. Will look at the pages and probably try to re-pencil the bridges (not sure if can find that defogger kit down here).

Have a nice day mate :)
