Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of doing a clean install of XP RC1, so I've just done the FDISK thing and made a 2gb partition for the OS and left the rest (of a total of 40gb) for my apps.
I have 2 Maxtor 20g drives in a RAID 0 on the Asus A7V133 MB. Formating c:\ is not a problem, but when it comes to formatting d:\ it gets to about 2% and stops.
Says the format is not ready.
Any ideas??
I did get it up to 24% last night before it canned out.
Thanks in advance.
Jas

PS: The drives are only a month old.

I had 2 new drives in a case using RAID 0 fall over (Idiot friend of mine) & all of a sudden I couldn't format 'em anymore :(
It would say that same msg during formatting at 2 different percentages on both drives (I had to un-RAID 'em). Scandisk would restart when scanning at those percentages. I wanted to try SpinRight but not enough $ & it probably wouldn't work if Scandisk couldn't (Yes, under DOS). Anyway, Western Digital offers a drive diagnostics package (so does IBM) that can communicate with the drive controller for almost a sort of "low level formatting scan" that detected the screwed areas and marked them as bad & redirected them to spare sectors (Like the bad sectors from the factory are done to). Works like a charm now. Same problem on a Toshiba laptop drive I have here but Toshiba has no utilities for it :(
