forgive me for my ignorance, I am a "newbie".

wow! the Asus A7v133 is really stable in BIOS.

Ok here is my problem: I have an A7v133, I can get to bios but I cannot boot from a floppy. When I attempt to boot from a floppy the screen just goes black, so i can't format my hard drive or install an OS. When I attempt to boot from CD rom the screen flashes and the machine beeps over and over and over. The bios reconizes the harddrive, floppy drive, and cd rom drive properly but I can't boot off of them. If i don't try to boot off of any of them then it just goes to a message which says something to the effect of "ultra100 bios can not be installed because no drives were detected." I thought that this whole mess could be caused by one of my components other than the motherboard but I found someone with the same problem, and no solutions, at the asus netQ forum. I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

Just to make sure you're at ground 0, go into the bios and load bios defaults. Then go to standard bios and set all 4 ide channels to auto. Then try booting from the floppy. This may or may not help, but it get's you to a place where someone can suggest additional changes needed.

Look! I am a "junior member," hooray!!

I reset the BIOS to its default settings, that didn't change anything with the problem, still can't boot from floppy. By the way my BIOS is version 1001C, if that matters. I doubt if I can flash the bios anyway.

What kind of floppy are you trying to boot to? Startup disk? Make sure you floppy ribbon cable is not backwards.

Yes, I have tried a start up disc and also an IBM specific disc formatting disc for my Hard drive, I have been told about the floppy thing and i fixed it so it seems to be working (at least it sounds like it is reading) but it does not boot from the floppy it just goes to this error screen then flashes and beeps:

Ultra100 (tm) Bios Version 2.01 (build 33)
(C) 1999-2000 Promise Technology, Inc All Rights Reserved

Ultra100 Bios is not installed because there are no drives attached

But in bios it does recognize my HD and CD. I think this might be related to the promise IDE controller on my board, but it is not in use and the manual says I can't boot from it anyways so I don't have any use for it right now...

You can disable it from searching for ATA100 divices in your bios. I am assuming you do not have any ATA 100 drives in your puter. Have you done any type of bios upgrades?

I know it has been a while, but I got it fixed.
At least I got to a A:/ prompt so that is good.

I plugged the HDD into the primary on the promise ATA 100 controller and put the ata100 thing in the boot order menu.

I don't know why this works but it works. It is certainly an improvement over not booting at all...

Thanks for your help everyone.
