I had bought an A7v133 refurb from Asus. I then installed a 1.3Ghz T-Bird, Thermaltake SuperOrb, 32xCD Rom, 10GB Maxtor 5400, and 8x4x12 CD Writer. This is for the "Old Lady" to browse the web and do email, made with scrap parts leftover from various computer projects I have done.

Also have a Rage IIc card installed.

Go to install 98, get errors. (invalid page fault, kernel etc) Reformatt Hardrive, can't get floppy to work to get into fdisk, or format C: Get old floppy, works, but get (Input output error)...CRAP!!

Go to local computer store to get floppy, They want $25+tax for an Everteck that looks 5 years old. Tell them they are smoking crak and leave. Go to buddies house and get floppy drive, come back, format Hardrive. Install windows, after checking bios and making sure that HD is detected. Same errors which always occur at the updating system settings with about 3 minutes left in installation. CRAP!

Take out all of the RAM that I had in, which was 448MB PC133. Just left in the 256Chip. Checked bios again, looked fine, reinstall. Same Error....Now I'm getting really frustrated, go smoke a Swisher to just get away from it all.

Come back thinking maybe the refub board is the problem. Reformat, start to install windows, same damn thing, except I can get in 98 with safemode. Browse around, run sfc, no errors. Good to go right? No boot normally, get windows Explorer error, when I closed it, desktop crashes! Aggghhhhh. About to pull my hair out now, wonder if the ide cable on the HD is bad.

Replace cable, go into bios yet again. Notice something strage with the Video Adapter Bus. Bios is detecting the RageIIc as PCI, when it is AGP. I set to agp, reformatt, start windows 98 installation. Installations is totally smooth, no errors. Install the Drivers for the ATI card, install SB16pci drivers, runs smooth as silk. Get audio working, and Video, install Quake2, runs fine at 800x600, will run at 1024x768. Now it's not as smooth as the old Voodoo2, but it's playable.

Finally got the board setup and working, running fine. Most hassle I've ever had with a Windblows install.

Moral of this post. Check the bios, have patience, if all else fails smoke a cigar.... :)

I just upgraded my sister's computer with an Asus AV7133/Athlon/PC133 and used your OLD 3gig hhd, Crappy Rage II PCI video card ect and did not have any problems (I did have to upgrade her ps since mobo need 300Watts to boot). Very payless.

Does make ya wonder what they are thinking...? (maybe just waiting on a Compaq sucker to walk in...?) :disgust:

BTW the A7V133 is kinda funny with the AGP/PCI video setting, also other KT133a boards do that as well... (my old KK266 did this as well...)
