A7V & WinME crashes, need help

Hello there,
I've just build my first computer (mobo Asus A7V & AMD Duron 800). No probs installing the OS. Elsa drivers insalled successfully. But then after a while, my comp. crashes and crashes. I can't even install MS Office 2000 Premium. Do I need to change some BIOS settings, anyone familiar with this problem, ...
What do I do?

Sounds like a CPU problem. I am not going to bash AMD, but I think you might have a CPU fan problem. Either that, or you have a driver problem. I would check for any RED X symbols in the Event Viewer that could lead to a potential problem.

Also, try taking out all of the devices, sound card, modem, SCSI card, etc. Leave only the CPU, video, and hard drives in and see if you are able to install Office or see if the system crashes. If you are unable to get the system to crash, then I would install 1 card at a time. For instance, I would install the sound card, and see if you are able to get the system to crash. Try to narrow it down to see if it is one of your cards.

If your machine does crash with not devices in the system, then I would look at your type of memory. I would only put in one stick in to see if it is a module.

Try this, and let me know what happens.

make sure you have all the latest dirvers for your chipsets, and any patches etc. look on the asus, amd, via, and MS sites for these items.

i agree, make sure u have the latest drivers for your KT133 chipsets, you always want to install these drivers befor u install anything else on ur computer. And since ur running WinMe i would install the VIA IDE & AGP drivers only, i wouldn't install the 4 in 1 drivers bcuz it always gave me registry error. I also had problem with the latest IDE 2149 driver, it always gave me weird problems from blue screens, windows protection error to system halts. I'de install the IDE 2147 (older) but works great with WinME and the latest AGP 403d driver...HOPE THIS HELPSVIA Drivers

Shadow07,
I followed your advice and started installin one card at a time. In fact I first installed the ELSA card and immediately after that MS OFFICE. I also installed an ISDN adapter and everything seems to work smoothly. The problem lies in the soundcard (Creative live 1024) or the software/drivers that go with the motherboard (Asus PC probe, VIA 4 in 1 drivers, Win95-98 Promise Ultra 100 IDE Controller, ...)
Have you heard/anyone about problems with Soudblaster live 1024 and the ASUS A7V mobo?
What do I do then?
thanks

Not really. However, that does not supprise me one bit. What I would do is put your sound card into the PCI bus mastering slot (the one closest to the AGP slot) and also download the latest drivers for your sound card. If this still does not work, then I would contact Creative Labs because you may have a defective card (I am not saying that you do, but mearly suggesting that you could have a defective card).
