Swapping my Maxtor 30GB from a Soyo 6BA+IV, P3-550E at 733 and Maxtor ATA100
controller, everything was great except when I try and install the Promise
drivers in Device Manager, the driver install wizard just hangs and I have
to end the task. I had the same problem with the Maxtor controller when it
was with the Soyo, but solved it by flashing the Maxtor card with the
Promise bios. I removed all the BX related stuff in Safe Mode.
I could not resolve this, so I put another drive in for a fresh install.
When I get to the detecting PNP hardware, it instantly reboots. I have both
hard drives on same ATA100 channel, the new one as master, and am running
bios 1004D.
Can anyone help. I was kind enough to take the stuff off my brother's hands
for a mere $200 which included the mobo, T'bird 800 and 256MB Micron.
Should I flash the bios to a newer version, move the old drive off the IDE?
