A7V promise ultra 100 IDE Controller

The Promise IDE controller is a secondary IDE controller that is built into the mobo. There are several reasons why you should use it:
Allows you to get ATA100 speed on ATA100 drives
Is slightly faster than the built in ATA66 for ATA66 drives

However, it does make bootup take slightly longer. However, you cannot disable it unless you have the 1004 BIOS.

Are you running Windows NT by any chance? I'm trying (so far unsuccessfully) to get WinNT 4.0 to find my brand new IBM Deskstar 75GXP HD. The system finds the drives, IBM's utilities find the drives, I've downloaded the driver from Asus for the Promise 20265 Ultra Controller, but the result is always the same, no soap.

This is a new machine build and is a new NT installation on the drive.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated

I'm running WindowsME. I'm having trouble getting my new Asus A7V run stable. After 15 minutes it always locks so now I'm trying everything out to find a solution. So far no luck. Any ideas?

If you're locking up in I.E. and using the 1004 series, you should downgrade to 1003. Downgrading to 1003 made my problems in I.E. disappear.

I'm trying the same with win 2k. It seems you have to hook up your drive to the standard IDE port to install windows NT (or 2k) then install the Promise drivers, and only then can you hook the disk back to the Promise controller.
