I am have all kinds of trouble getting the SBLive running in Win98SE.
The drivers load up and are the card is detected on Control Panel, but I cannot get any sound.
I know there are some problems with The ASUS A7V mobo and the SBLive cards.
Can any one help me out???

Does this mobo have on board sound if so you will need to disable it on the mobo by jumpers and in the the softmenu.

Yes it does have on board sound. I disabled it in the bios. It also has an on board Promise ATA100 controller, which maybe part of the problem. I disabled that in the Bios and in Windows also. I've connected the hard drive to the standard IDE contoller now.

Should I try to setup the SBLive manually??

I have an A7V and Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Platinum. In the beginning I experienced all kinds of problems, mostly due to IRQ-conflicts and bad drivers. Mostly my problems were connected with the graphic card Asus V7700 Deluxe.

Anyway, this is how I solved my problems (I think ? the computer has been rock stable for two days now and no of the ?old? problems have come back)

I put my cards in this order
PCI1 / AGP Asus V7700 Deluxe IRQ9 (assigned in BIOS and reserved to legacy drive)
PCI2 empty
PCI3 Sound Blaster? IRQ5 (assigned in BIOS and reserved to legacy drive)
PCI4 Network card
PCI5 Empty
Then I did my seventh hard install from scratch ? I know, it takes time and data will be lost, but fortunately I had backups on my important files. Then I installed my drivers in this order.
1. Via 4in1 (sorry don?t remember the version)
2. Drivers for graphic
3. Driver for Sound Blaster

In System turn of the Sound blaster Emulation since it wants to use one IRQ. You don?t need it, unless you play DOS games. Also in System, let BIOS handle IRQ, not Windows. (I think this is found under properties for the PCI-bus. Sorry, if I don't make sence.

Anyhow, I have not experienced any problems with the onboard audio/modem device turn on auto. I am not sure if the mobo has onboard sound. Actually I don?t think so. But turn it off anyway.

I hope that this will help you!

Good luck!

Update... IT'S ALIVE

Thanks folks. I got it the SBLive working...Much Rejoicing!!
I moved it to the 3rd PCI slot and manually set the IRQ to 5(legacy) and installed the latest VIA 4in1 drivers.
