A7V , Duron, and pc-133 athlon only memory

Why do some sellers (at pricewatch especially) label some pc-133 as "athlon only" or "unfit for Intel"? Should I be concerned about the quality, or is there an incompatibility issue? I hav a Duron 600 oc'ed to 900, and would like to upgrade to 256mb ram. It is not all cas2 even if labeled for athlon use.

There have been a lot of complaints about some memory modules causing a lot of BSOD's on some AMD systems. I think this is more common with overclocked systems though. There are a lot of users with generic memory at stock speed that are going just fine it seems. With memory in AMD systems getting hit twice per clock cycle the timing is important (hence 2 x 100mhz fsb). Quality memory provides lower latency and better timing under pressure in overclocked systems. At least that's how I understand it..

VC133 is awesome I must say. If you want to push your system then get the good stuff. Sadly, I bought some mushkin budget RAM for a friends system and it does not like to overclock very well. Either that or the CPU is a low binned chip. Something isn't getting the groove like mine is.

Buy from a respectable dealer so you can easily return it if it doesn't work out. Maybe post what make it is and see if anyone is using it and how good it is?

Thank you rmblam, as I suspected, but wanted to confirm that $60 for 128mb is too cheap to be useable. I think I'll try that Kingmax tiny bga.
