a7v cpu temp reading question

Where does the a7v get it's cpu temp reading? does it have the onboard thermositor or does it only utilize that probe that came in the box?

I ask because I can't seem to get much temp variation at all. My new Duron has stayed between 33-42c the entire time I've had the thing. Under rc5 for a while, running 3dmark for half an hour, never more than 42. And it only got below 36 for a few minutes when i took the side off the case. This includes time w/ the processor running at both 600 and 800 mhz.

This seems kinda odd to me, and is particularly worrysome when combined w/ the fact that the heat sink has never felt more than marginally warm. So I've got some combination of either the probe being mounted badly, the fan being mounted badly, or everything mounted well and getting awesome cooling. Anyone have an idea which?

(note: Everything seems pretty stable. Maybe 2-3 random crashes in 3 days. Case - Fong Kai 603, sink - globalwin FOP32)

It depends on the board revision.

1.01 and older boards use the probe. 1.02 and newer boards have the integrated thermistor. Heck, my 2 new A7V's (rev 1.02) didn't even come with the probe.

See above for thermistor info.

As for the temperatures themselves, they seem pretty normal. In fact, its almost identical to mine, and its well within spec. My HSF is also cool to the touch, probably because its huge and it also has massive airflow. As long as the temp is OK, things should be fine. If your HSF is not aligned good, chances are it'll be really unstable. Been there, done that.

Nope, everything is looking nice and steady right now. Ran Seti all night w/o a hitch and the only crashes I've seen so far in 5 days have been Deus Ex once (when exiting) and Serious Sam closing itself when I tabbed out to windows to check something (dunno if that should even be listed as a crash).

Tonight I try for 900... =q
