A7V Boot Problem

New A7V Rev 1.02, BIOS 1005C. Upon power up my IDE and UDMA devices are correctly determined and reported. But then an error message says "Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk and Press Enter". All I do is hit Enter. That's it, and it finishes booting into Win98SE normally. I have tried removing my PCI boards and other devices one by one until just my IBM ATA100 drive is left. No difference. That drive is #1 and even the only active boot device. My How can I make it boot without having to hit enter?

Not sure if this will help... in the system BIOS theres an option if you want to boot using the ATA - 100 Drive first. select on / off depending on what your running... maybe it helps/ probably not... =)

this a real shot in the dark but...

try disabling the virus protection thing in the bios..

NOTE: I have no idea if this will work .. just remember reading it somewhere

Yes, that is what helped me get my boot to work properly. Select boot ATA 100 as primary and you should see some improvement.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have the ATA100 as the first item in the boot sequence. I have the ATA100/SCSI or SCSI/ATA100 order set to ATA100/SCSI. And I have the Boot Virus Protection disabled. So it looks like none of those ideas will help. But thanks! Any more things I should check and try????

Dear GTODAve,
I am having the same problem as you are. Does not matter what the
settings I have tried, I still get the Disk Boot Failure error. I just flashed back to BIOS 1004D and it works fine as before. I think the 1005C is buggy.

Thanks for the responses. I thought the BIOS might be responsible. But since the Promise scan detected and reported the drive correctly (at least on the screen) I wasn't sure. I'll try flashing back as you suggested and see if that does it. Any ideas what might not work right in 1004D rather than 1005C?

You have to enable vurus protection in BIOS to get around that boot thingy - its well known around these forums- surprised U did not come across that before.

Dear GTODave,
I don't see much difference between 1004D and 1005C beside the ATA100 controller option
that let we choose between ATA100/SCSI or SCSI/ATA100. Version 1005C works fine for me
if I connect my Maxtor ATA100 20GB HD to the ATA66 controller then everything works just
fine. I guess we have to wait for Asus and/or Promise to fix this bug.

I was having the same problem with my rig when I updated to the 1005C Bios. If you enable the virus detection your system should boot normaly. Give it a try and let me know if you are still having problems.:)

You guys are great! My buddy Phillip T. said this board wouldn't let me down and he was right. I left my BIOS at 1005C and enabled the boot virus detection and the problem is solved. It sounds like if I had looked further on this board I would have found this. This is my first home built so I'm new at this. The lazy way is to take a quick look, post and wait. Call me lazy. But thanks for getting me going!
