I am using A7V mainboard on which sound blaster live! is installed in 5th slot. In duration of last two years, my A7V has been unable to detect sound blaster live!. I've installed A7V BIOS 1011 which is stated by ASUS such that 4/5th slot's audio card problem is already solved since 1007, however, it doesn't perform properly for me. Here's steps I've tried in order to solve this problem:
1. Installed A7V BIOS 1011 by update application.
2. After turn power off, installed sound blaster live! into 5th slot.
3. Rebooted system.
4. Windows98's plug and play feature detected sound blaster live! and installed appropriate driver.
5. Sound blaster performed properly until reboot.
6. After reboot, system didn't output start sound when windows98 was starting.
7. Checked out and found that sound device driver information disappeared from device manager.
8. A7V was unable to detect sound blaster live! although all devices were reinstalled by chaning slot number.
9. Changed sound blaster's installation slot number but A7V is unable to detect it unless installed in 5th slot.
10. Vicious circulation of 1 through 9.
Recently I begin doubting whether or not ASUS has really solved 4/5th slot's audio card problem. In my assumption they came to believe this problem had been solved when they did step 1 through 5! If anyone remember how to solve this problem that is although old issue, please post here to assist me solving this problem.
