A7V and V6600 Deluxe--I get bad direct X D3D display ?

a7v with the asus v6600 deluxe 32 sdr

Hi all,

I can't seem to get directX d3d test to run properly
I just get colours all over the place.software rendering or hardware, both.

Anyone know what's up?

Yes it was a fresh install/format of windows 98.
Yes I loaded the latest VIA 4-1 drivers.
Yes I installed DX7a.
Yes I only use the Nvidia ref drivers, version number???
CPU speed/cooler.
Power supply.
