I have an ASUS a7v MB, IBM 46gig 7200 RPM ultra DMA 100 HD, TNT video card, SB LIve! value, D Link NIC, Winbond NIC, 128mb 133mhz SDRAM, Tekram SCSI card with plextor 8/20 cd-r and toshiba 32x cd-rom drive.

I have a USB 56k SupraMaX 2890 External Modem that I am trying to use. It works with no problems with my ABIT BX6 MB. It installs correctly with no conflicts on my ASUS A7V. When I try to dial out there is no dial tone. I can here it click but there is no tone. I tired selecting it to "wait for dial tone" and then not to wait for dial tone. Either way it does not work. I even tried a pc tel PCI modem and it causes the blue screen of death when I try to dial out.

I downloaded the latest drivers for the modem. http://www.s3.com/default.asp?menu=...ems&item=drivers&product=SupraMax_USB

I tried changing the modem setting in the BIOS, both to AUTO and DISABLED. Neither worked.

I updated my drivers for the SB live! as well as selected "IRQ 5 reserved for legacy.....".

I just bought the board about a week ago and it has the latest BIOS dated in September.

Please help me get this thing working.

Thanks,

Fabio

Is the port disabled in bios? Go into device manager and check to see if it has hold of a com port and IRQ. The A7V has limited IRQ's and you might have to disable one of the com ports and/or sb live dos emulation to free up some valuable IRQ space.

Your modem is connected to 1 of the two comm ports built in to your mobo. If its Comm1 then the IRQ it needs is 4, If its Comm2 then it needs 3. The modem will not share an IRQ. You can disable the unused comm port in your BIOS Integrated Peripheral Setup. To prevent the IRQ from being shared, you can set it to legacy, just like you did for your SB16 emulation.

Dave make sure you have the latest Build 25 Promise drivers from asus. And also if your OCing turn it down.... I only had BSOD on startup when I OCed too high... it was usually a memory problem for me.
