A7Pro, 800 Tbird, 256meg 133 ram, GF2 MX...UNSTABLE!

I just assembled a buddy's A7Pro (asus) with an 800 Tbird and 2 sticks of generic 128meg 133Mhz ram and a Geforce 2 MX. Let me tell ya about unstable! It took 5 tries to get through the win98b install. I finally had to extract the cab files in order to get it to stick. I installed the via 4-in-1 (newest) and latest detonator drivers, directx 8, latest bios. The cursor dissapears at the top fifth of the screen. Fatal exception errors by the dozen. It's got a 300Watt power supply. The only thing I can think is the ram is generic, so might not be to 133Mhz spec - I backed it down to 100 with no difference. The processor's not running hot (stock heatsink/fan). I'm outa ideas. Well, not quite. I could run the 4-in-1 and put the AGP to normal instead of turbo. Maybe dump the 66 cable for a 33 (harddrive's new tho - 40 gig Maxtor). I'm ready to look for screws under the board (I'm sure that's not the case though). :disgust:

are you running in jumper or jumperfree mode? if your running in jumperfree mode the default voltage setting is 1.35v that may bve your problem, also a better heatsink fan combo may help.

i read that thunderbirds need a continuous air flow over the heatsink/fan try that too, mine setups now running stably, ordered an orb a few days ago. that'll be my finishing touch.
