Hi guys. I need some major help...

This is my first computer build, and with luck I got everything to power on and work. So when I try to install Windows XP, it says it can't detect any hdds on my system. I don't know what to do next?! When I first start the computer, it shows that the hdd is detected, but I don't know?

Here's my setup:

ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
GEIL 512MB PC-3200 DDR
Western Digital 7200RPM 80GB SATA

Anyone out there can point me in the right direction? I tried going to ASUS and Western Digital website, but all I found out was that I need to install a SATA driver using my A: drive.... but only a CD was provided for me when I bought the mobo.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi djxlee, welcome to the Forums :) You can get the drivers for your motherboard's Silicon Image SATA controller here.

*edit* NM, I see you got it!

Now that you have your SATA driver on a floppy; re-install XP.
Start your pc with the XP CD in it. When text mode setup begins, look for a prompt along the bottom of the screen that asks if you have a storage device driver to install press F6. At this point you should select F6. After setup has finished loading it's files, it will prompt you to insert the floppy with the SATA driver on it.
That should be all!

Yup, I just did exactly what you said, so right now I'm waiting for it to format the drive, then all should be well. Thanks again for the help.

Welcome to the forum's/ Hope you have some good fresh ideas to bring!

Now, i posted on your other thread in the techsupport area. I said the same thing as was posted here. Im not sure if it will still read it if it is zipped. So im not sure if you can span it across disks. I would try some software that allows you to span it across disks. Google search it. If not there will be plenty of people who have the know how to do this.

Excellent  Hey, if you have a broadband connection, do be careful not to let your computer run naked on the Internet without at least a software firewall. I have some tips near the bottom of this page about that, because as soon as the onboard network controller of the mobo comes online, it's a sitting duck for Internet worms to attack if it doesn't have some kind of firewall protection.
