A7N8X & XP2200+ - Can't get 400Mhz FSB!

Hi,

I have an ASUS A7N8X deluxe and XP2200+ CPU, with 2x256MB DDR400 KVR400X64C25/256 ram in slots 2 and 3 per manual spec.

It came and runs as standard CPU133x13.5 (1795.5mhz). Sanda reports that my FSB is running at 266mhz. I want to get it to 400mhz which the motherboard and ram support.

Whenever I change the CPU clock speed or the multiplier, the system locks up at boot (system must be full powered off to recover, and it drops back to a very low MHZ on the next startup), even if I go to 200x9.0 (1800mhz).

Can anyone advise what speed setting I should use to get the 400MHZ FSB going and full utilise my ram and FSB.

Thanks!

Holli

Unfortunately, 200mhz fsb is not guranteed unless you have a C1 stepping chip. I know that the ABIT NF7-S v2, all Soltek series 75frn2, and the 8RDA+ from newegg should have C1 steppings.

The mainboard is revision 2.0. I am in the middle of upgrading to the 1005 bios as I type (on another machine). Thanks for your feedback. Where is the C1 stepping chip found? The motherboard advertises "400MHZ FSB - Dual Channel DDR400" on the box / specs...

Thank you for your feedback!

I have upgraded to bios 1005 but still no luck. Any more advice? Do I need to unlock my CPU or.... is it just a matter of getting my multipliers right?

My CPU is not unlocked, it's just standard. Do I have to unlock the CPU to change the multiplier? I don't want to overclock, just increase the FSB.

You haven't provided any details about your CPU... some CPU's just don't overclock well... and XP2200's are not popular ones for overclocking... the 3 most popular are the XP1700 and XP2100 with DLT3C stepping... and XP2500's

Hi Geoff,

How do I get info about the CPU? As far as I know its just a "Athlon XP 2200+". Sorry for my ignorance.

Sandra reports:

1.81GHZ
Duron M8 & Athlon Mp/XP (Thunderbird) 1.5-2.5G+ 1.5-1.65V
Revision stepping: 8/1 (0)
Stepping mask: B0
Core voltage: 1.65
Generation: 7
Socket A - PGA
Multiplier: 13.5x
