A7N8X Which IDE Drivers to use?

Hey I got this board used, it didn't come with documentation or software.
I set up XP Pro on it and initially got some drivers from the Asus site, but
then was reading some things that indicated I'd be better off with Intel's drivers.

So I rolled them back. And it now says Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
instead of nVidia MCH or whatever that was. IS this what I want?

I never did download the big 25 meg driver package from nVidia, the stuff
from Asus was only about 2 megs. Am I doing this right?

You mean Microsoft default IDE driver, anyway you can install the latest Nvidia nforce2 chipset driver package (installing the nvidia IDE driver or staying with Microsft default driver is down to you) or you can use Asus nforce 2 driver pack from their site which`s older, you`ll also need the 3com LAN driver plus the Serial ATA-driver as well, btw I presume you have the deluxe version so these are for that model, since Asus have a few A7N8X models(5 infact).

Okay so Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller, the intel driver, is just fine then?

It seemed to me like I had some slight pausing going on here and there when that
nvidia driver was installed and I had my second hard disk hooked up.

Not sure which board I have, I got it used. Just says A7N8X on the PCB, it's not a
DX but it's the 400 mhz fsb capable revision. BTW don't really need the LAN or sound
drivers, have those disabled, using pci cards.

The best way to test the Nvidia nForce IDE driver is to do some burning and maybe some HD benchmarking performnce,if you find you can`t burn then go back to the default Microsoft IDE driver,it really is trial and error on performance and stability with the nForce IDE driver, since it works ok for some ,while others get problems.
