A7N8X stopped posting!?

I just got my new nforce2 system up and running, ran a few hours of benchmarks and everything was stable, so I started to overclock. 10.5x180 worked fine, so I tried 10x200 and windows failed to boot. So I backed the fsb back down to 180 and the mult up to 11. Save the settings and....... no post.... no problem, I'll just use the board's autorecover.... a few more resets and still no post... wierd. Clear the CMOS, still nothing.

After playing around with it for a while, I figured out you had to plug in headphones to get the audio error messages.... "system failed memory test". OK, so I figured that I had run into the known problem with high fsb speeds. Changing the fsb jumper to 100mhz ( from 133/166), still no go, same error. I've now tried different memory and an old 100mhz Duron chip, and still get the same error. I've pulled out all the components, I've also tried clearing the cmos quite a few times, and replaced the battery as well. Any suggestions to get it going again??

Sounds like bios is screwed. With nforce2 boards, if you make big leaps in FSB that don't fly, bios corruption can be the result. You'll probably have to RMA it. Alternatively, replacement bios chips are available. There is quite a bit of info about this at AMBMB and nforcershq forums. Good luck.

Sounds like you friedyour RAM :Q!!!

Try another stick in there, and see if it works. Or try them by themselves, just one 256Mb stick.

EDIT Could be a corrupted BIOS, on my Asus board... You can pull out the BIOS chip and stick in another, maybe you can order one from Asus or something.

I got the board from a local vendor, so an RMA shouldn't be a problem.

I actually booted the board at 200mhz fsb several times, windows was pretty unstable, so I backed the fsb down, then it died. Why would 180mhz kill it, while it survived 200 just fine?

I've tried 4 different sticks of ram, in combination and individually, no luck.

Were the PCI/AGP frequency's locked? Maybe you should just forget it and RMA the board anyway. Maybe it's just plain faulty.

My old A7N8X died on me suddenly a while too. Had to RMA it. The replacement was unstable as hell so I eventually gave up on the Asus.

ahh...alas..another satisfied Asus customer...and there support sucks so bad...you should have gone with either Epox or Abit.
