A7N8X "Soundstorm" and driver package question..Need help please

If i am going to use my SB Audigy instead of onboard sound, is there any way to install my nforce drivers from the disk or the 116s from the Asus site WITHOUT installing the sound drivers?

I noticed that even when I disable the onboard sound in the bios it still installs the sound drivers whether I use the disk that came with the mobo or the 116, or the 2.00 from NVIDIA. Can I install everything BUT the sound drivers?

And if not...will the sound drivers that are installed when I install the package conflict with my SB Audigy?

Your best bet would be to get the latest 2.0 driver package from Nvidia. They are newer than the Asus ones, and the sound drivers won't install on the A7N8X since Asus uses their own proprietary soundstorm drivers.

If you are not using the onboard sound, then the latest Nvidia drivers will work best. One question though....why are you using the Audigy instead? IMO, the Nforce MCP-T sound is superior...

Sure. There's a way you can insure the audio/video drivers don't get installed. Just copy the Asus drivers and/or install .exe into a temp directory onto your HDD. If you've downloaded a single install .exe like the one from nVidia or Asus, right click and extract the entire driver package into this same directory with Winzip. Once unzipped, you'll see the folders for both the on-board audio and video drivers. Simply delete these folders and then run the setup.exe right from the temp directory.

Can't you disable the Onboard sound in the BIOS? I don't think the NForce sound drivers get installed if they aren't required but, I could be wrong.

Sure, disabling any of the on-board devices in the BIOS should prevent the drivers from being installed (since Windows can't detect them now), but removing them from the driver package is just added insurance. Necessary, probably not, but it's a nice of mind.

The ASUS drivers are the way to go. They are newwer than the Nvidia drivers, even though they have a lowwer version number. ASUS did do some upgrades over the standard Nforce2 MB. Good Luck
