Barton runs at 166MHz FSB (or 333 equivalent), PC2100 ram is only guaranteed to run at 133MHz (266 equivalent). Nforce 2 might not support asynchronous operation with a memory speed lower than the FSB.

Try clearing CMOS with the PSU unplugged, then see if it POSTs (that should set the BIOS to run the RAM of it's SPD settings). If it doesn't, use a CPU with a lower (133MHz, 266 equivalent) FSB or get some PC2700 RAM (166MHz, 333 equivalent).

Oh, and this isn't to say you don't have other problems there.

Any beeps? Check to make sure the HS is making proper contact with the CPU's core. And recheck all other connections (be it cards, RAM, cable and connector orientation, etc). Goodluck.

I had same problem . Failed to post. After much swapping of parts.......... it was determined the ASUS V9480/TVD graphics card was kaput. Swapped to an ATI Radeon 9200 and everything is great. Now RMA'g the ASUS card.

It may be too late, but...

  • What brand is this 300W power supply?
  • What PCI slot is/was the Audigy 2 in?
  • What brand is your new RAM?
  • Did you try setting the FSB jumper for the 200 position as a troubleshooting step?
  • What heatsink/fan unit are you using, and is it mounted the correct direction?
  • Did you try the motherboard outside the case with just the essential items plugged in (CPU/heatsink, video, RAM, keyboard)?
  • Did you ream that video card ALL the way to the bottom of the AGP slot? Remember, there are two layers of contacts in there, so don't be shy ;)
If problems persist with your next board, try these steps and see if they help :)
