HI all.
I just recently decided to overclock(it started when I flashed my pny 5900 to a 5950 ultra)
Now I have my xp2600@2.2 ghz, but I wanna go higher. The highest fsb I can achieve is 177mhz, and not a bit more.
I'm pretty sure my memory is not the problem (hyper x 2700 177mhz@2-2-2-11)
so looks like it might be the proc or the mobo.

My question is this:
is the a7n8x rev. 1.04 notoriously bad for low max fsb speeds?

I got my 1.04 Deluxe up to about 195 stably. Try loosening the RAM timings (2-3-3-11) and upping the VDIMM, see how much that helps.

hmmmm
Yea I have already tried that (GULP, even 2.8 vdimm).
I ran the cpu fsb(asynch) at 200 no problem.
when I run the memory asynch, It um craps out:(.
I may have to remove the heatspreaders on the memory and investigate.
this disappoints me alot.

perhaps I need the uber bios ver.4 (man, a vdimm of 2.9sure scares me, but I have enough cash to get more ram if I fubar the one I got)

My v1.04 board can get to 200MHz FSB. When these boards were first released, they were good for 166 MHz, but bios updates increased the qualified speed to 200MHz. I would suggest trying either bios version 1004 or 1006. Many users of this board feel those are best for overclocking. If you want more of an overclock, but don't want to risk your memory, just increase the multiplier. The benifit of increasing the bandwidth helps very little actually. Peace.

My A7N8X Deluxe rev1.04 will make it to 200, but not any higher. That's more due to my Crucial PC2700 RAM than anything however, it might go higher with better memory. I'm using the 1007 Uber bios.

I have problems with my a7n8x 1.04 non-dx too. It all started when the cpus with 400fsb came out. I'm using an athlon xp1700 t-bred b. With bios 1002 memory ran at 200 no problem at all but fsb maxed out at 185. With bios 1004 and up fsb can hit 200 but then the memory won't hit 200 anymore. sync or async it doesn't matter. Tried all the timings, voltages, uber bios and raised vdd. Tried different types of ram, they just won't hit 200 with bios1004 and up.

Tried the 1006 bios? I found it gave me the best performance on my 1.04 deluxe board. Peace.
