A7N8X & Kingston HyperX PC3500 compatibility?

Anybody running this combination?

System won't post/boot and power cuts off after several seconds. I've reinstalled heatsink and removed all connections except power, power switch.

System reporter correctly identifies no CPU, and no memory, but if I add the HyperX memory, I get no report and the system just dies after about 30 seconds.

Any suggestions??

Thanks!

What heatsink are you using? Power cutoff is usually caused by the board's CPU overheat-prevention circuitry. Maybe your heatsink is on in the correct direction, but too close to the solid-plastic end of the CPU socket, so it gets hung up on it. This happened to me recently with my Thermalright heatsink.

Also, I assume you are using some kind of thermal compound 😀

Yep, using Arctic Silver compound and a Vantech AeroFlow cooler. I've tried reseating the CPU and think I've got a good connection.

Maybe it's running into the same issue that was arising with some high-speed Corsair modules. Do you have some slower RAM on hand? If so, throw it in there, set the timings manually to something like 2.5 2 2 6 in the BIOS, save & exit, let the board go all the way through the next POST so it knows those timings are workable, and then shut down and install your Kingston. Good luck, HTH.

Thanks mech!

I think I'm going to pickup a different kind of DIMM and new CMOS battery to test those two things. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't live so close to Frys.
