hi all!

I've been beating my head against what I fear is an asus wall - hoping someone here can help me?

Specs:

a7n8x-e deluxe bios 1009
athlon xp mobile 2600+
muskin pc3500 level 1 black

I can run at 200x12.5 at 1.7v just fine, but the ram is so dang slow at only 200mHz... I didn't buy pc3500 ram to run it at 200mHz ;)

so I try increasing ram mHz to the next highest percentage in the bios; system won't post

if I leave the ram percentage alone, and try increasing the fsb; system won't post

reduce multi to 9x, set fsb to 210, regardless of vCore and vDimm; system won't post!

What's the deal here? Did I get a lemon, or is the asus design a lemon, or am I missing something?

What timings?
Try setting high latencies, like 3-4-4-8. Maybe asynchronous mem/fsb will help?

Keep us posted, I got the same motherboard and I plan on overclocking.
Good luck!

thats a motherboard problem, certainly not ram. i had the exact same motherboard, with the same problem. return it.

edit: if you want to use that ram,get a DFI mobo with that mobile processor.

I've tried timings as high as 11-6-6-3T and it doesn't help.

looking into the dfi ultra infinity?

I don't want to mess with rma's and what not, I will just wait for ram to come back down, put this asus in one of my other systems, have several p3/celeron systems in need of upgrades :)

I guess running a 266 mHz cpu at 400 mHz is pretty good - 2500 is faster than an XP 3200, but I'm sure the slooooow ram is hurting things.
