I used ASUS update to flash my Bios to 1013. It appeared to be successful, but at the reboot request it didn't recover. It gets as far as the WinXP splash and progress bar, doesn't load, and then gives me the Safe Mode screen. I've tried all the options on that screen; but it just recycles to the same screen after rebooting. At the Alt+F2; I tried flashing again with the same 1013, but on a floppy. It went in okay but I still can't get into WinXP. I did back up the 1009 to the ASUS update file; but stupidly did not copy it to a floppy. Since I can't get into windows, I can't retrieve the 1009 Bios. I also tried Bios 1011; but no joy there either. I think the only option is to try 1009 again. Perhaps WinXP sees the hardware change and wants another setup and ID verification etc. I noticed a thread on the last page of this forum this morning; that CONSILLIAN has a .bin available. Are you out there CONSILLIAN, and do you have 1009.bin ?? Or anyone else using this board with bios 1009; that would send me a copy via e-mail attachment ?

This is just out of context of your question but I'd like to know if you're using a USB keyboard and if so did you ever get the message "No Keyboard Found" eventhough the keyboard is plugged in?

I am having that problem and wanted to know if you ever experienced that problem as well......

"gnumantsc"; No I use a PS2 keyboard, and didn't see the message you saw.

My problem has been cured. I flashed to the 1013 Uber Bios using the Alt+F2 method. Then went into BIOS setup and checked that the settings were as I had them previously. ( only the startup from PS2 keyboard had been altered) Then using my other PC, I downloaded the most recent Sil 3112a Drivers from the Silicon Image web site to a floppy. (ver. 1.0.0.51) Put the WinXP CD-rom in the drive and booted from the CD. At the Setup option of F6 for Raid or Scsi driver I hit the F6 and stuck in the floppy. Proceeded to do a "repair" install of XP. ( Not the recovery console repair) It loaded okay and about 30 minutes later I was back up and running. Only glitch seems to be, now I can't switch my Outlook Express identities. It defaults back to my main Identity. All my other apps and files are okay and the 3 partitions were undisturbed. For which I'm very, very THANKFUL ! I usually don't make backups since I use Raid 1; but I think I'll start backing up from now on. Too much info to lose if I have to do a clean install or reformat.
"Blessed is the Pessimist; for he hath made backups".
My next chore will be to get into the ASUS update folder and copy 1009 to a floppy for future reference.

Good luck with your problem.
Happy New Year to all.
