I installed my new A7N8X Deluxe mobo with my old XP1800 CPU and 2x 256 PC2100 DDR RAM. When I hit the power button the computer powers on and about 10 seconds later powers off. i rechcked the ram, and cpu everything seems to be in place, also unplugged all the IDE cables, what could be wrong?

Check FSB jumper if it has one, check CPU fan, Check there's no shorts (ie the board touching the case). Reseat Ram,PCI cards, ect.

aaaaand what PSU you using? could be the culpret. Make sure the vid card is AGP4x or 8x.

EDIT: if ya already checked all that out then it's RMA/back to retailer time.

Make sure the cpu fan is in the cpu fan header. Does the system tell you whats going on ? That MB has speech at boot to tell you about problems, assuming you have the speaker plugged in (or is it the sound speakers ?)

I did all the above, THE CPU is an XP1800 so i set the FSB to 200MHZ. not getting sound out of anything, i plugged in the speakers. CPU FAN is also plugged in, since it spins up when i hit the power button.

the power supply is an antec 300 watt. which was pulling my old system fine, with 4 HD's and 2 CD drives. so im sure it can power a bare CPU/mobo/video.

Umm, you need to reset the cmos and set the FSB to 133MHz.

Make sure your CPU HSF is installed correctly, and not sitting on the raised part of the Socket462. 🙂 It sounds like you might not have good contact on the CPU, and the Asus COP protection is shutting it down..

I have a feeling that this is the overheating protection shutting down the computer. If you can make it into the BIOS hardware monitor, have a look at your temperatures are. What thermal interface are you using and are you sure your heatsink is seated properly and making good contact with the die of the CPU? It's common for the HS to be on backwards. Peace.

plugged all the stuff into my old board, and everything works fine, i must have gotten a bad board. it was a newegg refurb...

newegg refurb,

Yep. I don't think they test anything that get sent back... Glad they have a good RMA policy.

my cousin got the same mobo and gave me his, and it works great so far, now how do i install windows to the SATA drive? its detected durring the POST but windows installer does not see it. Windows XP.

Sorry guy, I just RMA'ed aA7n8X Deluxe board to Newegg two weeks ago. It had the exact same problems you described. Replaced it with a Gigabyte MB, a GA-8ipe1000 Pro. Everything is working great.

i called newegg and they were telling me they cant replace my board because they dont have anymore of the refurbs, i was looking at the refurb page and it said they have them in stock, so i ordered one, it shipped the next day.
