A7N8X-Deluxe-Rev2, processor temperature indication in BIOS

unbiased

Senior member
I have athlon xp 1700+ on a7n8x deluxe rev2 mobo.I have had this board for about a month now.Initially the temps shown in bios were steady but now processor temp shown in the bios fluctuates from 39 to 28.Actual value is 39(because mobo temp is shown as 32).
Asus probe shows stable value(though 4 degrees higher).Probably because of slower sampling rate?
I have my system running at 10.5*166=1750 Mhz.System is stable in all other respects.
THE QUESTIONS ARE

(1) WHY THE FLUCTUATIONS?

(2) WILL BIOS FLASHING SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

(3) IF TEMP INDICATION VIA BIOS IS INCORRECT (SAY 50 DEG. INSTEAD OF 60 DEG) WILL THE SYATEM FAIL TO SHUTDOWN IN CASE OF HIGH TEMP EVEN THOUGH THE TEMP IS SHOWN CORRECTLY IN ASUS PROBE?

ANY ANSWRERS PLEASE?

I have this same question.

Why is it that Asus Probe reports higher temperature than the bios.

I don't know which one is the correct reading...

The chips are good up to 85-90C according to AMD, don't worry about it. Your temps are fine, and your chip won't fry.

This board's temp sensing abilities leave much to be desired. My CPU diode temp always reads 2-4c cooler than the socket temp, and both are cooler than the mobo temp. Doesn't matter if using mobo monitor, asus probe or reading it in BIOS, the temps are always like this.
