A7N8X deluxe Post message: system failed due to cpu overclocking

Newbie to overclocking, Everytime I try to change anything in the bios to OC, I get the error and have to put it back on default settings. How do I get around this problem. Asus monitor says my bios version is REV 1017 beta 005 T0. My mb says it is version
Rev 1.xx
My system is:
ASUS A7NX8 deluxe
AMD Athlon 2700 throughbred b w/volcano 11HSF
twin 512 pc 2700 corsair XMS
120GB Maxtor 8mb cache
52x24x52 lite on
4x DVDR/RW Memorex

Once I get past this past this problem could someone suggest some setting that have worked for them with this board.

How far are you trying to overclock this thing? Maybe try putting the FSB to 200 and then setting the multiplier to 11.5, and see if that will boot. If not, try 166x14 and see if that will boot. Also check the temperature in the "PC Health" section of the BIOS. Good luck.

perhaps it has something to do with my bios version? I see everyone talking about v 1002.A and I can't find it on ASUS's site. Anything I change in the bios settings gives the same error. What's up? I don't have a floppy in this computer and when I tell the bios that and exit and save changes I get a black screen and have to turn off and back on, then the system defaults are reset in the bios.

By the way, temperature should not be a problem with that volcano 11 that sounds like a vacume cleaner. Temp is at 41C. If I could get the bios to act right, I could get some nice numbers with this pc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

i have the a7n8x deluxe, go into the bios and disable all halt boots, and set the bios to load no matter what.

If you don't have the 1002 or newer bios, then flash. Just make sure you get the correct bios for your mb revision and deluxe/non deluxe. The Asus Update utility flashes from windows and works well.

And how long does it take to flash?

like 1 min if that very fast use the flash utility that came with the mb drivers on your cd. I have the same board. I get simialar errors with the memory saying it failed. it seems that it is buggy. I have about 1 problem a week with this board.

The flash utility is an exe program and when I double click it it does nothing but pop up a dos screen for about a half second??
