I have been reading on alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus about the woes of using Samsung PC2700 memory with the A7N8X motherboard. Can any corroborate this or provide any feedback?

I currently have two sticks of Samsung PC2700 256MB DDR (K4H560838D-TCB3) in my A7N8X deluxe rev 1.04, one in DIMM slots #2 and #3.

What is the recommended slot use for two sticks of RAM on this board?

Many thanks all, happy holidays.

1 & 3 or 2 & 3 will give you DualDDR, but benchmarks with 2 & 3 have shown the best results.

(2 & 3 are the blue slots, by the way ;))

Edit:-
Also I've not heard any woes about Samsung Original PC2700. I'm running it right now at 4-2-2-2T with absolutely no stability problems at all! :)

Check my rigs, I am using three Samsung PC2100 in all three slots, no problem at all, hit 200Mhz FSB successful. Currently, CPU limited to be stable at 190FSB 1.8Vcore, don't want to bump the voltage too high. ;)

The "D" chipset is inferior to "C" chipset. I am using two C-TCA0, one C-TCB0, all hit 200FSB@2.5-2-2-5 at default DDR vcore. "D" chipset normally tops out around 185FSB, YMMV. :D

Well, I ran MemTest-86 v3.0 overnight and it hung the 1st time. Then this morning I notice it has hung again during test #11. It did not report any error but hung. Also at default settings MemTest shows the memory speed at 978MB/s. Is this right? When I up it to 4-2-2-2T is shows 1043MB/s. Anyone else have a similar experience. I am thinking of going to exchange my memory today at T-zone....gah, I don't feel like heading out to Akihabs today...grrr. But I plan to turn in my Gainward G4 Ti4200 64MB.....Asus V8420 Deluxe...any opinions?

I'm back, after much hooing and hawing, traded in my Samsung PC2700 CL2.5 and got PC3200 CL3.0 and I don't seem to have that windows wierdness any longer....so far. I also exchanged my Gainward TI4200 64 AGP 4x and got meself an MSI TI4800SE 128MB AGP 8x. So far so good except UT2k3 crashed on me for the 1st time ever but I plan to do an OS reload anyways as I haven't moved anything over from the old machine. Contemplating Maxtor 200GB 7200rpm ATA133 to replace my two old 80GB's, we shall see.

Has anyone noticed any oddities w/ DX9 so far? I think when I reload the OS I will hold off on installing it again...seems flaky so far? Also, I am using Nvidia's latest driver 41.09...what is the general consensus so far from others? Should I stick w/ the MSI drivers? Thanks guys!

I'm using 2 sticks of Samsung PC 2700 C2.5 purchased from googlegear in banks 1 and 3. Running them cas 4-2-2-2 185 fsb 2.7v no prob. Will boot into windows cas 7-3-3-2.5 @ 200 fsb, 2.8v but run into stability issues, not completely sure if it's the ram yet, since i've heard some people say the norbridge and southbridge get too hot at high fsb speeds.

DX9 = New
Thus DX9 = Unsupported
Thus DX9 = Released so that Microsoft can do a public beta test.
Thus DX9 = Not widely tested.
Thus DX9= Buggy.
