a7n8x deluxe and norton internet security 2003

I have a question. I have been trying to install norton internet security 2003 on my system which is based on an Asus an78x deluxe mb. I get an error message that says that I need to reboot to complete a previous uninstall.... blah, blah, blah. I realize this is covered on Symantec's help site. I have tried following their instructions to install NIS without any sucess on this machine. However, I have installed it on other machines I own which have different MB's, no problem. Does anyone think this might be a MB & Norton conflict, etc.? Or had the same problem.
