I just put together my first system yesterday and had trouble getting the CPU to post as anything but a 1500+. Upon viewing several of the threads here I was able to get by that problem but when I run 3DMark2001 SE it rates very low (11320). I noticed on MadOnion.com many other sytems with the same CPU set at 2100+ and having a higher FSB speed ( they also did better than my system). What am I missing in this equation,Also the ASUS probe that came with the board monitoring the CPU registers a temp of 50c/123f (seems high)what should the average temp be? Any advice would be most appreciated

My system is
ASUS A7N8X deluxe
AMD XP 2100+
512Mb RAM Kingston
WD Special edition HD 80Gb
Radeon 9500 Pro
Creative 52x CD-Rom
Sony CR-RW
Floppy

I had the same problem. For some strange reason, the Asus manual doesn't tell you what to do.
Go into the BIOS settings, Then select Advance| Advanced chipset Features.
The CPU external fequency will probably be set to 100. Increase it to 133 and your system will report a 2100+ chip.
AMD said that CPU ID pgms read the BIOS, not the chip, oddly enough.
(This is also where you can start overclocking).
