I am about to flash my A7N8X bios and want to know if anyone has tried flashing the bios with the Asus Update v3.41.01 Windows utility that comes on the Asus Support CD?
The Asus web site talks about using the AWDFLASH (DOS) utility, didn't see any mention about their Windows based utility.

Comments, Suggestions, Experiences?

Thanks!

I've Use it on an A7V266-E, and it works fine, but the first time nothings happens, the process was completed, and the program reported success, but the old BIOS remains intact, uppon a seccond run, it works, but I recomend the DOS procedure, with a UPS of course!.
Its quite dificult to run this program under windows, becouse you'er never sure wath kind of program are running in the machinne along with Windows, so a lot of thing can happen, and they all can live you with a death mobo, so the DOS procedure is a lot safer!.

I went back up to ASUS's web site, got the latest Windows Update utility, v3.45.03.
Still unsure of flashing my bios with a Windows utility.
Thinking of using AWDFLASH (DOS).
Anybody tried the Windows program?

I downloaded the BIOS file to my desktop, then ran the Windows update as "update from file." I have Windows XP and the A7N8X deluxe. Worked perfectly. I could never get the "update from Internet" to work.

A DOS procedure may be more difficult but it is indeed a lot safer, I reccomend DOS all the way, until BIOS gets replaced by EFI. :)

I too have the A7N8X deluxe mobo, and I just recently updated my BIOS to the newest update using the Asus Update. I just downloaded the .bin file from the Asus website, and then clicked in Asus Update to update the bios from the file I downloaded on my computer. Worked like a charm. Love the update. If you need help doing this let me know. Hope all goes well.
Peace!

Oh yeah. I had another question I just thought about. When I updated my BIOS I got an option to chose how I want to change my RAM. I can change it to 100, 133, or 166. I didn't have this option before I did the update. I have 1 - 512 DDR 3200 from Mushkin with a heat spreader on it. I'm not sure which setting I want on it? I have the other settings at 2-2-5-2. Let me know what I should do. Thanks. I'm still a newbie at some of this stuff, but I'm learning.

Asus update works great, DON'T BE AFRAID.

I have used it for every bios update they have come out with and have yet to see a problem.

I tried the Windows utility, and it worked great. Much easier than using the DOS tool.

BuffBoyBradley, if you set your System Performance bios setting to "User Defined", you can manually specify a FSB frequency range.

Note that when doing this, it will effect the overall frequency of your CPU! Taking the FSB speed times the multiplier speed.

I recieved huge performance increase by upping the FSB speed well beyond the factory setting of 133MHz. I now have mine set at 180MHz. I have Corsair XMS CAS2 PC3200 RAM.
Providing you have a Thoroughbred CPU, you should be able to do the same (if you want to that is).
Also, set the Memory Frequency to 100% or Sync for best performance.

If you don't want to overclock your CPU, but want greater performance, just lower the CPU multiplier and up the FSB speed.
