a7n8x and duron 900 (spitfire)

hi. this is my setup

asus a7n8x rev2.0 with newest bios
my old duron 900 'spitfire' (i just learned this little tidbit) -- (waiting for my athlon xp 2700 to arrive )
512 mb 'Ultra' pc3200 400mhz DDR
my old vidcard geforce2 mx-400 with nvidia 61.77 drivers (new vidcard is also on the way whew)
Spire 'WhisperRock IV' cooler and Coolmax 400w ps

can i overclock this at all? i raised the fsb in the bios and it was at 963mhz and the temp stayed at 39C after running Sisoftware Sandra burn-in tests for about 1/2 hour. While i'm waiting for the new components to arrive, can i crank this little beast up a bit more? if so, how much and what general tips can anyone provide for this semi-new motherboard/old cpu combo?

- thanks in advance.

i hate replying to myself... but...

i checked overclockers.com and they have a database with different cpus. this resource proved to be helpful too because it allowed me to judge the midrange area of what these spitfires have been oc'd to (with conventional cooling).

for now its at the 963mhz and after playing bf1942 for about an hour which i suppose is sorta stressful on the system, the temp was still at 39-40C. i notice the performance increase with this little overclock though and i like it.

one question i have though is... in my BIOS, should i have the Ram setting on 100%, 150%, by SPD, etc?? When i exit and look at the post, it says the memory is set at 107mhz, single channel mode. this is DDR400 though, so I should be able to use at least 200mhz, right? Thanks in advance for any help as i am relatively new to OC'ing. Thanks

is the cpu unlocked?

if it isn't you can easily unlockit, then you can pretty much run whatever fsb you want. FYI spitfire i think topped out around 1.3ghz, maybe with some voltage you can go higher, prime95 is a good stress test program, also i think the spitfire cores ran hot, but i could be wrong

thanks for responding. i was beginning to feel lonely.

well, the new xp 2700 is in, so I guess that was a short lived OC project 🙂
