i just built a sustem around this board, and everytime i open up Nero 5.5, the system crashes. first i thought it was a problem with a cd-rw because it was cheap Artec one, but ive heard ntohing but good about this cd-rw, but i decided to go and buy another cd-rw anyway. same problem! i tested both drives on my other system, and they worked fine.
the crashing is consistent and only happens with the cd-rw, otherwise, the system seems to be rock solid.
since it was an nForce board, i figured a good way to test it would be to run 3DMark 2k1. i looped it 200 times, (about 20 hours constantly) and the system held up fine! just wat i would expect from a Asus board, but when Nero opens and starts doing its SCSI/IDE scan, the system totally flops... ugh.... and windows xp pro comes back with one of those serious error reports for me. i even got a couple blue screens, something about IRQ_not_less_or_equal, i checked the bios settings for the IRQ info, that seemed fine, changed a couple things on that and never got that problem again, but the crashing at nero opening was consistent , i was kinda surprised because ive never seen that out of XP before.
but get this...
when i tried burning a CD with windows XP's native burning capability... it worked... thats why i thought it was the cd-rw at first....
i finally figured it was just a defective board, but before i send it back to Newegg, i wanted to get some thoughts from the more experienced people here.....
thanks in advance!!
