Has anyone successfully run memtest 86 v.3 on this mb?

Everytime I try it, the program will load (from the fdd) almost completely ......... then all I get is a black screen.
I can use the same floppy and memtest program in my other pc with no problems.

I want to try to rule out the mb as the problem, thanks for the info

The usual reason to run this is to confirm that your RAM is 1) not defective at normal speed, or 2) "stable" at a given overclock situation, right?

A7N266-VM's don't permit overclocking (unless you engage in hanky-panky with a soldering iron), so are you suspicious of your RAM, or do you just want to run the test for the heck of it? I known you told me a while back but I think I deleted my temporary files *points at head*. :p

I could see about running it on my rig at work tomorrow perhaps. If I get a chance to do it, I'll let you know whether it launches successfully or freezes up.

I have already tested the memory stick I'm using in the A7N266-VM in another pc and it tested error free.
So why won't memtest even run in this system?

I'm trying to answer some of the following questions:
Do I have a weakness somewhere else in my system, that needs to be corrected or modified.
Are my memory timing settings causing the problems?
Will memtest simply not run in this mb?

If no one else with this mb can run the test either, then knowing that will save me wasting my time trying to find the problem.
At the memtest site, there is a statement that memtest simply will not run in some systems.
Surely someone else with this mb has already tried it?

No overclocking, I would never try to oc a system until I'm sure it's 100% error free at normal speed!
Thanks,

You're refering to a "problem." Do you mean that memtest doesn't run, or is your computer misbehaving in some way? :)

Just the fact that memtest will not run on this pc, but will run fine on all my other pc's, is enough to indicate a possible problem or system weakness. IMO
Other than that, I've not have any major problems with the A7N266-VM, but so far it's only seen very light usage.
I can't believe that other users of this mb have not tried to test their system's memory, especiall those that are pushing the fsb to it's limits.

How do you push the FSB anywhere on an A7N266-VM? It's not an OC board and I've seen two people here toast their A7N266-VM's in the attempt to make them into one. :p But hang tight and I'll see about running it on my workstation here. If it doesn't launch, maybe it just isn't familiar with nForce memory controllers.

That's my feeling too, but to each his own. :) My workstation is behind me chugging away at Memtest86 3.0 and is 62% complete with zero errors (2 x 256Mb Crucial PC2100, TruePower 430 with APC BackUPS Pro 1000VA line-interactive UPS). I'll give a final report when it's done.

All done, no crashes or errors. clumsum, if you haven't tried the 3.0 version, maybe try that. Also read the Readme.txt file for some ideas why it might not run (for instance, if it messes with the memory the system's trying to use for video, assuming you're using the onboard video).

Thanks for the info mechBgon, I'll do some testing and see if things improve.
I think there are other users who performed the necessary mods and are agressively oc'in this mb.
I am using Memtest86 v3.0

ShowdOWN, - I used to feel the same way, but there is plenty of defective memory, SDR & DDR being sold now, and the newer mb's and chipsets, are pushing memory, psu's and cpu's to the max. Just the fact that your pc runs day & night without crashing, is not always the best indication. If you are running day and night with a fully stressed system, then it may be OK.
