just built a new system - asus a7n266-e, tbird 1.4, 256 ddr, 60gb ata100, lge integrated cdrw/dvd
was working great for about a week after i got the drivers installed (manually, i'm using win98se), but 2 days ago i put in the akira dvd and it started playing REALLY fast. so i put in another dvd, same thing. so i put in a cd i burned with a divx copy of being john malkovich and it did the odd speed-thing again. so i copied it off the cd onto the hdd incase it was the cd drive, but even playing off the hdd it did it again! i have since played a movie compressed with every codec i can think of, used a ton of players, you name it. every time, it plays in super-speed, with the audio in sync to the video. i have downloaded clips so they never touch the cdrom, same thing.
i can put in a music cd and it plays great, i can rip a cd no problem. i just don't get this issue at all, i've never encountered it before in 10 years of building computers.
i even UNDERclocked this rig to 5.5*133 in the hopes that it couldn't run fast enough to play video that fast, SAME THING!!!
if anyone else is or has had this problem and got around it please tell me how!!! i'm goin nuts!!!!! i think it must be the board, it's just got some weird timing bug. of course, no new bios to try yet...
thanx in advance
